The second part of The Get Down is now on Netflix. Consisting of five episodes, this run continues the story that started last summer, acting as the back half of Season 1. This is a review of all five chapters, but it doesn’t contain major spoilers.
If the first six episodes of Baz Luhrmann’s operatic The Get Down were about the from-the-ashes rise of the MC/DJ hip hop crew combination, then these continuing five episodes, or even final five, are about the fall. Not for the genre itself, of course, but for the fictitious Get Down Brothers – consisting of returning characters Zeke (Justice Smith), Ra-Ra (Skylan Brooks), Boo-Boo (TJ Brown Jr.), Dizzee (Jaden Smith), and Shaolin Fantastic (Shameik Moore).
