AMC has announced a new sci-fi documentary from James Cameron.
Called James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction (though it’s still a working title), the documentary contains six one-hour episodes and debuts sometime in 2018 on AMC. The series takes a look at the history of the sci-fi genre in pop culture, from its humble beginnings, to its current dominance in all things entertainment.
Cameron and few of his colleagues talk about and debate “the merits, meanings, and impacts of the films and novels that influenced them,” one of which is 2001: A Space Odyssey, a film that inspired Cameron to become a filmmaker. The director promises to delve into the work of artists like Stanley Kubrick and Ray Bradbury, and “how science fiction imitates and sometimes informs science.”
