If the greek chorus of nosy elementary school parents wasn’t there to remind you at every turn, you could be forgiven for forgetting that Big Little Lies actually is a murder mystery. Sure, it’s a showcase for Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern and Nicole Kidman to remind you that they are at the top of their acting game, which we’ve seen on display in the first three episodes of the limited series.

But the fourth, “Push Comes to Shove,” managed to pull the focus back on the crime introduced in the premiere: someone was killed at an elementary school charity game night, and because we don’t see any of the major players in their gossipy police interviews about the crime, it’s totally one of the main players from the first three episodes.
